This year I styled out modern black kitchen similar to how I styled it last year however, this year I went for a faux garland! Real garland quickly died in the Florida humidity last year. In today’s post I’m giving you some simple tips to style your kitchen for the holidays and some tips to style open shelves! You can read more about our modern black kitchen here.
For our floating shelves, I try to keep things useful and uncluttered. I always have dishes out that we actually use and I like to decorate with items you can actually use in the kitchen. The one requirement for those items is that they have to be pretty! A marble butter dish? Perfect! Pretty cake stands and cutting boards are even better! Think of each shelf as it’s own little vignette but also keep the larger picture in mind. If I put dark gray of black on the top left shelf, I’ll try and balance it out with a dark gray item on the bottom right shelf. I also use the “Rule of Three.” when grouping objects on the counter. Take their size and scale into shape and they almost always look best when you have a large, medium, and small item. I usually pair the three items with a cutting board so that the grouping looks intentional and put together!
For Christmas, to keep things uncluttered I try to swap out items that were already there with like sized Christmas decor items. For example, there was a vase the size of the milk jar there before, so I put that away for the season and swapped it out with the Milk & cookie set.
For the garland over the sink, I simply used white screw hooks to attach it (one on each end). They’re easy to patch at the end of the season, too! Below you’ll find links to everything in the kitchen!
