Fall fashion is my personal favorite, but winter coats and heavier layers can cost you a pretty penny. The good news is that every season trends are inspired by past decades and that means you can find some old, but on-trend pieces for way less! Today I'm sharing my "dos and don'ts" of vintage shopping to help you find the best gently used clothing for fall AND save some major cash!
SHOP THIS POST:
DO HAVE AN OPEN MIND
Don't look past something just because it's too big or has shoulder pads. Vintage items at thrift stores are typically very inexpensive, leaving room in your wallet for tailoring. If you find the perfect piece and its just a size or two big, consider taking it to a tailor and paying for alterations. Then you'll have a unique piece that will truly make a statement!
DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER
Just because a vintage or thrift store looks gross, doesn't mean you can't find anything good! In fact, a lot of places that I've found my favorite pieces from were just random hole-in-the-wall places that I stumbled upon. The sweatshirt around my waist in today's post is a perfect example. There is a great athletic throwback store in our neighborhood and we hadn't noticed until they were having a sidewalk sale one day!
DO A THOROUGH QUALITY CHECK
Make sure to check the item very well! You will want to make sure all of the zippers are working, buttons aren't missing, and most importantly, that there are no stains. In my experience, stains on vintage pieces are there forever, even after taking them to the best dry cleaners out there. If something has a weird smell, that will normally go away after you wash or dry clean the item.
DON'T FORGET TO LOOK ONLINE
Online sites have great vintage items too and it's even easier to find exactly what you're looking for! I love Etsy because they always have great vintage Kentucky gear so I can cheer on my team in style! The athleisure trend is still going strong this season too which is why I couldn't resist the sweatshirt I'm wearing in today's post (and it was only 20 bucks)!
I hope these tips will help you to save money this fall and find some unique pieces to add to your wardrobe! Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
