I can't believe Jett is 5 weeks old already! Time is flying and it seems like he's growing up so fast. I've had a lot of questions about his routine, sleeping, breastfeeding, etc so I wanted to write this post hoping to answer some of those. Keep reading for an update about all things Jett from his first month!
Hello,
!LIKES:
Like most babies, Jett loves to eat! At his 3 week appointment he was up almost 3 pounds from his birthweight at a whopping 11.8 pounds! Luckily he’s slowed down on the cluster feeding but still has his days where all he wants to do is eat. He is exclusively breastfeeding for now and we haven't had any issues yet (crossing my fingers our luck continues)!
When he isn’t eating, he loves laying in his DockATot and looking at the toy arch. He hasn’t started to hit the toys yet, but he’s tried a few times. We usually have the DockATot on the couch during the day, but sometimes put it on our dining table when my husband is working from home. Skyler loves to watch and interact with Jett as much as he can when he isn’t working!
At night, Jett sleeps in his Rock N Play. He has since we brought him home since so many other moms recommended it. We’ve recently stopped using the rock function so the transition to his crib is an easier one, but still occasionally use it if he’s fussy. It helps him go back to sleep so he can get a longer stretch of sleep, and you know how much a tired momma loves that! I plan on transitioning him to sleeping in his crib at night at 6 weeks, but I'll keep you updated!
When he’s in the Rock N Play, he’s also swaddled tightly in his Ollie swaddle. This swaddle is AMAZING and the only one we’ll use at night. The fabric is breathable which is really important since he’s a hot baby and it also doesn’t stretch out. It is stretchy but sturdy and he never fights being swaddled in it!
DISLIKES:
I have really bad allergies and I’m afraid Jett might’ve inherited them from me. Since he was born he’s been congested here and there. When he’s really stuffed up, we use the Nose Frida but he hates it! Poor little guy doesn’t even like when we just wipe his nose with a baby wipe, so the suction really makes him mad. Luckily he calms down quickly with some snuggles!
Since we don’t want to bathe him too frequently, we often wipe him down with baby wipes to keep him clean. He’s got rolls for days so it’s important we keep the folds in his neck clean from spit up, but he does not agree. Second to the Nose Frida, it’s his biggest dislike and makes him cry which always makes me feel horrible!
MILESTONES:
So much has happened in just one month! Jett got to meet my mom (his LoLo) who flew in from Kentucky when he was a week old. He had his first trip to the pediatrician where we learned he had gained 1/2 pound just 3 days after leaving the hospital! His umbilical cord fell off when he was 11 days old which was super exciting- his little belly button is so cute! After that we were also able to give him his first bath. Surprisingly, he didn’t hate it. He also went to the beach for the first time! We’ve been to a couple of our favorite beaches in Laguna already and he loves it.
SLEEP:
From the minute we got home, Jett has been a great sleeper. In his first week or so, he slept 3-3.5 hour stretches at night and now sleeps from 4-7 hour stretches at night. We are slowly getting into a routine, but he isn’t great at napping during the day right now. He’ll usually have one good 3 hour nap during the day but the others are an hour or 2.
FEEDING:
Jett is breastfeeding and we haven’t had any problems so far. He latched perfectly from the start and my milk came in while we were still at the hospital, so we are very lucky! During the day, Jett is feeding every 2.5-3 hours. He cluster feeds in the evening around 6 and 8pm and we just started doing a (pumped bottle) dream feed at 10pm. Since we've been doing the dream feed (read about it in this book here), he's been sleeping from 8:30pm-3:30am! Currently, he is getting 3-3.5oz in the dream feed.
He typically wakes once at night, but goes right back to sleep. In the first week, it took him a little longer to feed at night (sometimes up to an hour), but he quickly became more efficient. In the first couple of weeks he was waking twice a night as well. Sometimes I have to change his diaper mid feed because that’s the only thing that wakes him up, but usually he’s too tired to care and rarely cries like he does during daytime diaper changes.
He had his first bottle actually right before these photos were taken to make him sleepy! He took it like a champ and we’ve been trying to give him a bottle a few times a week since then. It takes him about 30-40 minutes to finish 3 ounces during the day, but he finished 3.5 ounces during his dream feed last night in about 15 minutes. All in all, I’d say he’s getting used to a bottle each time he drinks from one.
I plan on doing a post about breastfeeding and all of our essentials for that, so feel free to leave any questions you may have in the comments! Thank y'all for stopping by, I hope you have a great day!

Haley
