HOW TO TAKE CUTE FAMILY PHOTOS AT THE PUMPKIN PATCH

September 25, 2019 Haley Jones

October is almost here and that means PUMPKIN PATCH SEASON! Hooray! I can’t wait to go to the patch in Kentucky again when we visit for Halloween- eek! In today’s post I wanted to give you some tips to get the best pumpkin patch photos and some outfit ideas as well, so keep reading!

Can you believe how much Jett has grown in the last year?! I can’t wait to go to the pumpkin patch again, the one we went to in Kentucky is called Evan’s Orchard and they also have apple trees (where a lot of these pretty photos were taken). Ok, so here are my best tips to get great photos of your family and of your sweet babies at the pumpkin patch.

GO DURING THE WEEK

When you go to the pumpkin patch on a week day, the chances are that it will be way less crowded. That’s the first big plus for cute family photos! Even if you know how to use Photoshop, you won’t have to worry about editing Bob and Jill out of the background of your photos. Always call beforehand to double check the hours!

GO AN HOUR BEFORE THEY CLOSE OR AN HOUR BEFORE SUNSET

This is the most crucial step! You want to go to the pumpkin patch right before they close and during golden hour. The light an hour before the sun sets is beautiful, warm, and will create gorgeous photos. If you go an hour before the patch closes, it’s less likely to be busy as well! So definitely do that if you can’t go during the week (maybe on a Sunday evening)!

WAIT UNTIL IT’S ACTUALLY COLD OUTSIDE

It’s hard not to jump at the opportunity to go to the pumpkin patch the week that it opens. I know how excited I am for fall, but it’s still HOT. You don’t want to try and dress in cute fall clothes and then end up sweating your booty off. That isn’t cute. So just wait a few weeks (or just go twice- ha!) for the weather to cool down so that you’ll be comfortable in your cute fall outfits.

GO AS A GROUP

This is SO important for getting great photos if you aren’t hiring a professional! When you go as a group, someone from each family can take photos of the other family. The extra people not in the photos can also be your hype squad to get those babies to smile- ha! Every baby needs a good hype man, right?! When I was in Kentucky last year, I went with my sister and her family, and my cousin and his fiance! They got the best shots of Jett and I, and vise versa! It was perfect!

TAKE AS MANY PHOTOS AS YOU CAN

This kind of goes without saying, but take as many photos as you possibly can. You can always edit them after you get home! Try different poses, areas, lighting, etc.! Most importantly, have FUN!

BRING A BLANKET

Since you’re going at sunset, it might cool down quite a bit before you leave the pumpkin patch. Bring a blanket to keep the baby warm but also for a cute photo opp!

WHAT I'M PACKING FOR FALL IN KENTUCKY

Jett and I are hopping on a red eye tonight to Kentucky for Halloween and I am SO EXCITED! Not for the flight, but for fall weather and activities with my family back home! I planned a bunch of outfits and the rest I’ll just wing it, but I wanted to share everything that I’m packing for myself so y’all can shop it now. My pre-flight anxiety had me ordering clothes (and boots) every 5 minutes yesterday, so I’ll also have a lot of un-boxing to do when I get there since I sent everything to my mom’s house. She told me there are enough packages to stack under a Christmas Tree- oooops!
