Summer in Laguna Beach is THE BEST! We go to the beach almost every weekend and brought Jett to the beach for the first time when he was just a few weeks old. Today's post is filled with helpful tips we've learned over the summer for taking a new baby to the beach, enjoy!
1. BRING A LIGHTWEIGHT SWADDLE BLANKET
Swaddle blankets double as excellent nursing covers when tied around the neck and can protect your babies sensitive skin from the sun. Make sure you bring one that's super lightweight and breathable so your babe doesn't get overheated.
When Jett isn't under an umbrella or his beach tent, we wrap him in a swaddle so he's protected from the sun.
2. DRESS BABY IN LIGHTWEIGHT CLOTHING
Whether it be swim shorts or protective UPF clothing, make sure your baby is wearing breathable clothing so he/she doesn't overheat.
3. BRING A DIAPER BAG THAT CAN BE WIPED OFF
A faux leather bag or backpack is a great option for the beach because you can wipe off the sand before you get home! I love our Honest Company backpack for the beach because it's easy to carry and also easy to clean.
4. DON'T FORGET AN UMBRELLA
An umbrella is probably one of the most important things you'll need for a trip to the beach with your new baby. They should be in the shade at all times, so having an umbrella you can adjust as the sun moves is ideal. This one is great for the beach and comes with a bag making it easy to carry!
5. PACK A TENT
A tent is great for the beach for diaper changes, a place for the baby to nap, and for momma to nurse. We LOVE this Neso tent for the beach as it's super easy to set up and folds up into a very small bag! We typically bring an extra towel to put under the tent and keep his diaper bag under it in the shade.
6. CARRY BABY SAFELY TO THE BEACH IN A BABY CARRIER
Carrying baby to the beach in a carrier is the safest option to get to your spot safely. In Laguna Beach, most beaches have lots of steps so having Jett strapped onto me in his Ergo carrier is also the easiest way to get him to our destination safely. I love this Ergo baby carrier because it has a shade for his head and protects him from the sun.
7. STAY HYDRATED
If you're breastfeeding, this is super important! A big water bottle is one of the first things you should put in your cooler or diaper bag. I like this 40 oz. Hydro Flask bottle because it keeps water cold!
8. WEAR A BIG HAT
When you're carrying baby down to the beach, a big hat not only protects you but also provides extra protection for the baby. The more sun protection for baby, the better! A hat for baby would be a great option too if you can find one that will fit and stay on!
9. BRING A TOWEL FOR BABY
An extra towel is great for diaper changes and naps! We keep this Señor Lopez towel under the tent just for Jett and his cousin Ford. You can also use this dry towel to dust sand off of baby at the end of the day, but I also love this "See Ya Sand" powder!
10. BRING A PACIFIER CLIP OR WUBBANUB
It's incredibly easy to drop a pacifier in the sand and not so easy to get all of the sand off! Pacifier clips are great to bring to the beach so you don't have this problem, but Wubbanub pacifiers are also great because they're easy to catch. We usually keep one of each in Jett's beach backpack.
I hope this post was helpful, have a wonderful time at the beach, y'all!

Haley
