I’ve gotten a lot of fitness related questions over on Instagram lately, so I’m going to answer them all here! Last time I did a fitness Q & A was last summer and it’s crazy how much has changed since then. I’m answering all of your questions about my workout routine, supplements, and more so keep reading!

Q: WHAT WORKOUT DO YOU DO?
A: Currently, I’m just trying to work back up to 5 mornings a week in the gym! I have been SO busy with blogging, my job, decorating our home, etc. that I’ve been blocking out my weekends for more of those things. I took a break after we moved into our house because it took me forever to find a new gym. When I’m going 5 days a week I’ll do 3 leg/booty days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday), and 2 upper body/cardio days (Tuesday, Thursday).
Q: ARE YOU STILL DOING THE KATY HEARN CHALLENGE OVER AND OVER AGAIN?
A: Not currently! You do have whatever challenge that you purchase in your app forever, so I do reference some of the workouts in the app if I’m having a day where I can’t think of what to do. I’ve been trying to stay off of my phone completely at the gym because I’ve found that it helps me get a better workout in 2x faster! I was spending way too much time on my phone after I checked which exercise I should be doing and it was really distracting.
Q: ARE YOU STILL USING THE FIT BY KATY APP?
A: Not right now! I may do the Build A Booty program again this summer, though!
Q: HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORKING, GOING TO THE GYM, AND BEING A MOM?
A: I definitely don’t have it all figured out, but the best way for me to (try and) balance it all is going to the gym early in the morning. Waking up at 4am is a struggle every day. I honestly don’t think it gets much easier, but it is worth it because it’s the only time I can fit in a workout! I find that when I’m consistent in the gym, I’m a more positive person overall, which makes me a better mom!
Q: HOW DO YOU MIX IT UP? WHAT IS YOUR ROUTINE?
A: I love mixing it up! I used to have no routine at all and would literally just wing it and do full body workouts every time I went to the gym. Now I work a body part and have an actual workout split. I actually like the structure and it’s helped me to build muscle!
For cardio, I always mix it up because I get bored doing one thing over and over. I’ll challenge myself on the stair master, run sprints on the treadmill, or if I’m not feeling it I’ll hop on an elliptical and get moving.
Q: TIPS FOR GROWING A BOOTY?
A: Lifting weights! It will not make you bulky if you’re doing the right exercises and making that mind to muscle connection. That’s what I focused on for an entire year last year and I was so proud when I could squeeze my butt cheeks one at a time- ha! I love following different fitness accounts for inspiration- @katyhearn of course and @bretcontreras1 has great tips too!
Q: HOW OFTEN DO YOU WORKOUT AND DO YOU HAVE SPECIFIC ROUTINES FOR CERTAIN DAYS?
A: I like to go 5x a week and fit everything in on those days so that I can have the weekend to relax and work on my blog. When I’m consistently going 5 times a week, I like to do 3 leg/booty days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday), and 2 upper body/cardio days (Tuesday, Thursday).
Q: HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO SEE RESULTS AFTER BABY?
A: What seemed like FOREVER! I used to be able to snap back from a not working out phase in a month and have abs. After having Jett it seriously took almost 2 years to “get my body back.” I actually think I look better now than I did before baby though which is CRAZY! I would say I saw serious results after 6 months of consistently going to the gym 4-5 days a week. You can’t give up- it takes TIME to build muscle! For the first 6-8 months after having him, I was working out here and there and it just wasn’t cutting it. That’s when I decided that I had to do what at the time seemed impossible- waking up at 4am to workout!
Q: HOW CAN I FIND TIME AND MOTIVATION TO WORKOUT WHEN I’M IN COLLEGE?
A: I know it doesn’t seem like it- but you have all of the time in the world! You’re young and have so much more energy and time on your hands than you ever will. After having Jett I often wonder what the hell I did to fill up my time before I was a mom- ha! Trust me, if I can fit it in- so can you. You just have to make the time and stick to a routine. It’s hard at first, but the results and the mental clarity you’ll get from working out are worth it!
Q: AT HOME AB WORKOUTS?
A: I love following @hannahbower2 for ab workouts and form tips!
Q: ARE YOU STILL TAKING BALANCE?
A: Yes! I LOVE Balance and it improves my mood 1000%, helps with my hormonal acne, and gives me more energy throughout the day.
Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PRE-WORKOUT?
A: Alanu Nu rainbow candy pre workout! It’s SO delicious and I never get tired of the flavor.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PROTEIN?
A: I love Alani Nu chocolate peanut butter protein! It’s good but I also love vanilla protein to mix with other things (like fruit). In the morning, I eat ONE protein bars and they’re absolutely delicious. The best protein bars I’ve ever tried to be honest- the glazed donut and the chocolate chip cookie dough are my favorite.
