Planning outfits for engagement or family photos can be tricky, especially when you're already busy with all the holidays bring. You don't have to stress about what to wear for your winter family photos, though! With the tips in today's post, your engagement or family photo outfits will be planned in no time so you can spend more time Christmas shopping and party hopping!

1. START WITH A NEUTRAL BASE COLOR:
Picking a neutral color to incorporate in everyone's outfit is key for an overall look that isn't too matchy-matchy. We picked navy blue because Mr. Jones wanted to wear his navy and burgundy plaid shirt.
2. MIXING PATTERNS:
Mixing patterns will look amazing when it's done the right way. The key to mixing patterns is to find ones with similar color schemes. You want them to be different because too much of one pattern can be a little overwhelming. Since Mr. Jones was wearing a plaid shirt, I opted for a more geometric print with this cape and our pup wore his darling navy and white stripe bow tie collar.
3. ADD AN ACCENT COLOR:
Incorporating an accent color will aid in creating outfits that coordinate flawlessly for your family photo, plus it's the perfect way to make your outfits pop! Our accent color ended up being burgundy since Mr. Jones' plaid shirt incorporated that color. Not every individual in the family needs to wear this accent color either, and it can be used in small amounts with accessories like a necklace or hat!
4. FANCY FOOTWORK:
Your best bet here is to choose either browns or blacks- it will make planning outfits way easier! Just make sure that your footwear will work for the location and weather. Skyler wore his trusty LL Bean boots and I've sprayed my favorite Steve Madden over the knee boots with suede protector several times to protect them from the rain.
5. DON'T FORGET ABOUT ACCESSORIES!
If it's really cold outside for your family photos, you might need a blanket, hats, gloves, etc. Use tips 1, 2, and 3 to choose accessories that will compliment your outfits and incorporate the base and accent colors. You could wear a solid top and bottom and add pattern with a scarf, or wear a patterned top with a solid hat and gloves in the neutral base color. If it's going to rain, make sure to stock up on cute clear umbrellas. I love these personalized ones from Mark & Graham too!
With these tips, you'll be styling beautifully cohesive outfits for your family photos in no time! I can't wait to see them! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day, y'all!

Haley
