When I initially found out I was pregnant, I thought we'd be finding out the sex of our baby in November. My dad LOVED Christmas (he literally covered our entire house in lights one year), so I thought it would only be right to make him smile big from heaven when he saw our little Christmas tree light up with pink or blue lights! As it turned out, I was a little further along than I thought, so we had a vintage Christmas gender reveal in October anyway and today I'm spilling all of the details!
To my luck (and surprise!), a lot of retailers are featuring vintage inspired Christmas decor in soft shades of pink and blue this season. Anthropologie has a wide assortment to choose from like these beautiful glass ornaments that are seriously swoon worthy! We decorated the mantle with some mercury glass trees in pink and blue as well as some fun nutcrackers.
For the cake, I got a little crazy and decided to bake it myself (with box funfetti cake, duh)! In my opinion, box cake is always amazing and you have plenty of time to spend decorating it. This particular cake was 4 layers and had a thin coat of white icing on it before I drizzled it with pink and blue icing. The icing was store bought too (I may or may not have told our guests that- HA!) but I did hand mix the color. After mixing each color, I heated up the icing in the microwave for about 30 seconds before pouring it on the cake. After that, I put the nutcrackers on and let it all set up for about 24 hours. It was SO YUMMY!
Finally, for the tree my mother-in-law helped me spray paint some nutcrackers and a tree topper light pink and blue. After assembling the tree, we put one set of pink lights and one set of blue lights on it. Since Skyler and I already knew the gender (he surprised me a few days before because he couldn't wait for the weekend- HA!), we tucked the cord of the pink lights so that we would for sure plug in the blue set for the party. **Side note- make sure each set of lights works properly before putting them on the tree! I'm pretty sure our blue set was defective and they weren't bright AT ALL, so Mr. Jones and I ended up yelling the gender out loud when we plugged in the tree in case our guests couldn't see them.** The nutcracker "ornaments" we just tied onto the tree with fishing line that I got at Hobby Lobby. It was so cute and so perfect, especially because Mr. Jones and I were both hoping the tree would be BLUE!!!!
We are so happy and I can't wait to share more of our journey with you! Check out the videos of both surprises (when Skyler told me and when we told everyone else) below and make sure you like my Facebook page! Thank y'all for stopping by today!
