The third piece rule is something that all sartorial dressers abide by, that’s why they always look flawless. I talked about it a little bit here and while it’s a very simple rule to follow when it’s cold outside, warmer temps make being a good student of fashion a challenge. Today I’m going to elaborate on the third piece rule and give you some fool-proof ways to incorporate it into your summer style!
So what is the “third rule?” Most importantly, It’s a very simple outfit formula that truly works and is based on always styling an outfit with three key pieces. Think of an outfit as roles in a fashion film: one piece is the star, a second piece the supporting actress, and don’t forget the extras aka the third piece!
To demonstrate how easy it is to add a third piece without overheating, I'm sharing this outfit I wore in Philadelphia last weekend. Mr. Jones and I hadn't experienced humidity since moving to Seattle this time last year and boy, did we forget how it felt! It was about 75 degrees when I put on this outfit, but since the dress was lightweight and the vest was sleeveless, I was super comfortable!
